Additional Information For Clients With Questions About EMDR

What is TF-CBT?

Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment that has been evaluated and refined during the past 25 years to help children and adolescents recover from trauma.

What is EFT?

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a well-known humanistic approach to psychotherapy developed in tandem with the science of adult attachment.  This science has expanded our understanding of individual dysfunction and health as well as the nature of love relationships and family bonds.  Attachment views human beings as innately relational, social and wired for intimate bonding with others.  The EFT model prioritizes emotion and emotional regulation as the key organizing agents in individual experience and key relationship interactions.

What is Discernment Counseling?

Nearly everyone enters marriage with the dream of a lifelong union. But many couples reach a crisis point where divorce is on the table. Usually there is one “leaning-out” spouse who thinks that divorce might be the best way to move forward, and one “leaning-in” spouse who wants to preserve the marriage and make things better.

Discernment Counseling was developed to assist these couples. The goals of Discernment Counseling are clarity and confidence about next steps for your relationship, based on a deeper understanding of what’s happened to your marriage and each person’s contributions to the problems. It’s not marriage counseling aiming to solve your problems or bring you closer, but a way to help you figure out whether your problems can be solved and whether you both want to try.

What is Transforming Touch?

Transforming Touch is used to help us create new neural pathways to override those that were affected by developmental trauma. Doing so is intended to reduce the need for spending extra energy on coping, or, “just getting by." These defensive accommodations rob us of extra time and energy to live how we want to live. Using the modality helps those looking for increased regulation and freedom. Transforming Touch usually involves the practitioner physically touching the recipient, though other alternatives are available if touch does not feel acceptable. You can read more about the modality here: https://www.austinattach.com/research-on-the-effects-of-touch/
